![]() ![]() I do buy it for small projects and even do some work on it, I use Photoshop, Lightroom, Elements, and Illustrator. I don't use the software enough to justify subscription. I feel like they are now only interested in large companies to pimp out their products. Their recent promotion of the CS6 product at is not a step in the right direction. They have done some great things for the industry but the way they do business is no longer acceptable. I feel like Adobe's way of doing business is horrible. ( and when you need to create a raster mask you can still use the vector mask as an alpha channel.) There are some good tutorials out there and it is a non issue for photoshop. Vector masks use much less processing power and are more accurate then using raster based masks. If you own a house you do not expect to charge rent for it and if you do own a house you do not expect to rent the roof.Īnywho the real show stopper is the lack of the plug in with advance vector masking. In the end it will always be the end user that will decide if a product is worth the price. As for the latest & greatest? I think it was a mistake to introduce the subscription and not just give the software for free. If you are familiar with both applications then you may see that you don't need to learn a new tool. If you are not familiar and comfortable with Gimp then you may not want to get started. ![]() So is it better then what I am using now. There are even free online tutorials for how to use the gimp. I use Gimp mostly for smaller files with the same quality as Photoshop. I can not use it for the large file, for retouching of large files (not to mention the file size) other then the basics. I find it to be a good tool for what it is intended. If you have never used it then you should download the trial and play around. While you may not be able to create a perfect art piece in it it is very capable of doing many of the tasks you want to do. You may also find Gimp to be a good asset. All I can say is that you will be surprised how fast it runs when you cut/copy/paste pieces of PSD files. I have been using Photoshop since the first version of CS6 for many years and as of yet have never made a raster mask. So you want the latest and greatest software?
